FIONA CASTLE SPEAKS IN RUNCORN AT GLOBAL CARE 25TH ANNIVERSARY
All Saints Runcorn vicar John Hayes welcomed people from almost twenty churches to this celebratory national tour for the 25th Anniversary of a Christian charity that cares for needy children all over the world: Global Care (not to be confused with equally excellent Christian work, Care Trust). It was appropriate for the charity to visit Runcorn as that was where founder Ron Newby became a Christian as a child in the Sunday School of a small Brethren Assembly round the corner from his home.
Global Care works in many countries, and from a small beginning it has grown to its present stature of touching the lives of needy children in many of the worldl’s poorest nations.
After an introduction from Warrington based patron and former chairman Doug Wood a group of musicians from local churches led worship. Edward Didsbury from Global Care introduced a dvd about children living on the garbage dump of Phnom Pen in Cambodia, stressing their poverty and the extreme danger they are in from physical injury, sickness and poisoning form toxic fumes, as they strive to scrape an existence. New projects started by Global Care have given a new hope to these children. Global Care’s local leaders were introduced on the dvd. Poi pet, another city in Cambodia, has equally severe problems, though of a different nature, involving the sexual exploitation of children. Global Care are working there as well, aiming to provide loving care, education and nourishment to children trapped in poverty.
Fiona Castle has long been associated with and a patron of Global Care. In November she traveled to Cambodia to see for herself. Fiona told the audience how she had everything she could need, but was desperate and empty on the inside, and how her life was changed when she invited Jesus into her life. She said, “The only way to have fulfillment is to follow Jesus”. Talking about her visit to Cambodia she said, "It changed my perspective. When human beings step out in faith, they are never the same.... Jesus is looking for people who will dare to trust Him." Fiona quoted founder Ron Newby, “We can't do everything, but mustn't do nothing”. More information on www.globalcare.org.uk
