Book Review

“Lucas on life 2”

by Jeff Lucas

Reviewer: John Cavanagh

This is one of those books that make you laugh and cry! It is a humorous

collection of anecdotes that thoroughly challenges, provokes and nudges the reader through a personal account of life's ups and downs. But it is not simply a book of amusing  stories. It is funny, moving and

deep. One commentator said it was like a breath of fresh air. Jeff has lots of serious points to make through the often hilarious situations he relates from his life. Sometimes the stories have a poignant edge to them. Through them all Jeff asks the reader to be real about his Christian faith.

He challenges Pharisaical religious attitudes that can pollute our lives. He

asks questions about our traditions and seeks to encourage us to value the styles of others rather than taking a superior attitude. What shines through it all is a love for people, for  example reminding leaders that God's people are "unique poems written by God" not just fodder for our vision! The book is very easy to read. Rob Parsons, of "Care for the Family",

commented that he read it through in  one sitting. It has conveniently small chapters. But the ease of  reading and brevity of its chapters  doesn't prevent it making serious points clearly and understandably. It has one resounding message - despite everything we do, say or think, God still loves us.The book is very easy to read. As Adrian Plass calls it: "seriously funny - and just brilliant".
