Network of Networks Meets To Plan For The Future
A very dynamic meeting of leaders from across the Mersey Region took place in the Lighthouse in Anfield on 29th October. The group considered a number of initiatives that could contribute to the goals of harvest in and transformation of the region.
After an introduction by John Manwell there was a presentation by Dave Sharples about the 4 Points, and the project he is working on to fund publicity for evangelistic efforts on Easter Sunday in 2009. There was an enthusiastic welcome for Dave’s ideas and a sense of wanting to work together in this. There will be publicity coming out about this shortly. Watch this space, and visit the 4 Points web site (www.the4points.com)
Andy Larkin shared about the work being done to develop links between those churches involved in works that could be called Compassion Ministries, such as serving the homeless and so on. This was as a result of Andy’s vision shared with leaders in May of this year. Work is going on contacting all the churches on the TFH/Merseyfest database, and early next year a Compassion Network will be launched. The aim is to have a Compassion Ministry Forum on the web site for when the Compassion Network is launched early in 2009.
Mike Kerry introduced two colleagues from “Riverforce”, the new church plant founded in the Merseyside Police. Inspector Peter Owens outlined how the new expression of church had come about. Peter and his colleagues meet once a week, late on Friday afternoons in an office. Their meeting covers three stages:
Since Riverforce started, four other cells have sprung up across the Merseyside police force. Most of the cells take place at lunchtimes or after work. Peter attends one of these as well, a cell formed by middle managers.
Mike and Peter went on to talk about the plans to have a Redeeming Our Cities Conference in the Echo Arena on June 16th next year. Look out for future announcements about this, and put the date in your diary (7.30 pm).
John Manwell reported on the Kingdom Business project, which you can see here.
John Cavanagh outlined plans for a year of continuous prayer in 2009. The idea is for churches to take responsibility for a specific week, during which time they would pray according to their format of prayer, for local, regional and national issues. For one week in the year the plan is to have locally tailored prayer guides, and for everyone to pray. For more details email John on prayer@tfh.org.uk
