Heal Our Land

Year of Continuous Prayer: The Details

ALL THE DETAILS

To seek churches who will take responsibility for one of the 52 weeks of 2009.

Each church would pray during their chosen week, using its own chosen style and means. There would be a range of engagements in this, including 24/7 prayer in some places, daily early-morning prayer in others, congregational prayer using prayer guides etc, using different “departments” of the church to pray on different days, and so on. There are many ways of doing it, as each church is led.

The goals for prayer would be:

To pray a fundamental change in our society and nation, covering current issues appropriate to the time when the church is praying

To pray for the Mersey Region, both for transformation of society and for growth in the churches

To pray for local issues and churches and people, for the spheres of life in the community.

To pray in a way that touches the hearts of our communities in a year that in widely expected to be a great challenge to everyone. Just as Merseyfest met people through works of kindness, so this “Prayerfest” is aiming to meet people through prayer.

As each church reaches the end of their particular week of prayer, a representative from that church will visit the next in line on Sunday morning to pass on a physical baton (A PRAYER DIARY) and to pray blessing on them.

For one week in the year - 14th to 21st June - prayer is being planned for Christians everywhere to pray together for our local and regional area. Locally tailored prayer guides will be produced to be used at home by individuals or families, by home groups, by church groups, or by churches in normal worship services. A united event is planned for 7.30 pm on Tuesday 16th June at the Liverpool Echo Arena  - more details later.

BBC Radio Merseyside’s “Daybreak” will announce the churches that are praying and other communications on the Daybreak programme on Sunday morning. More details of this will be posted on the web site as they develope.

Regular prayer guidelines will be produced with information to help but not direct your prayers.
