NEW YEAR WELCOMED AT THE CATHEDRAL WITH LAUNCH OF YEAR OF CONTINUOUS PRAYER
On Saturday 3rd January people from nearly twenty churches braved the cold weather to gather at Liverpool Anglican Cathedral for the launch of the Year of continuous prayer.
Over forty churches are now registered for this prayer initiative, and this was celebrated in a time of worship and thanks giving led by musicians from Frontline church. In the area under the main tower, next ot the cathedral’s excellent Prayer for Liverpool exhibition. Participants were encouraged to pray with people from a church different to their own, and it was an incredible sight to see pairs of Christians sharing with each other and a heartwarming sound to hear the buzz of fervent prayer bringing blessing on each other and their churches. It was a true measure of the sense of unity in the churches about this prayer.
Chairman of TFH John Manwell shared about his experience in the House of Lords on December 11th, when spiritual and political leaders agreed on the need for the church to pray in 2009 at this time of economic crisis. It was encouraging that in arranging for a year of prayer it seemed as though the Church in the region was in tune with what God seems to be saying to the nation. This was followed by prayer for the Mersey region for protection and provision on jobs and families.
Sue Sinclair of Community Watchman Ministries next led the congregation in prayer for reduction in crime. There was an impassioned plea for a cessation of the murderous violence of the last years.
The concluding act of the night was to pray for the members of Christian Life Centre, Toxteth who are the first church on the continuous prayer diary, starting on Sunday 4th. They were handed the “baton” of a prayer diary, to be filled in and handed on from church to church throughout the year.
