Heal Our Land

Book Review

THE OLD TESTAMENT TEMPLATE

Landa Cope

Reviewer John Manwell

This is a refreshing and challenging book! Some will be familiar with the concept of the seven spheres of society “Family, Church/ Religion, Education, Media, Celebration (arts and sport) Economy, and Government” as described by Loren Cunningham. For others this may be a completely fresh view of what the Scriptures have to say on human experience.

This book by Landa Cope is written in a thoroughly clear and fluent style, with many excellent and stimulating examples as she briefly covers eight areas. (She adds Science as a separate topic.) Landa Cope takes us through each topic with straightforward scriptural arguments showing how the Bible teaches so much more about human life, beyond the message of “salvation”. She argues that the church has been ineffective when we have only focused on getting people saved and ‘into the Church’.

Landa takes a helpful ‘back to basics’ on God’s view of government and the economy – which many might find illuminating as we approach election debates and ongoing national economic challenges. At a time when our politicians and business leaders are struggling for solutions this is a positive contribution. She brings some interesting insights regarding borrowing and debt – which is very topical at this time!

In only two hundred pages Landa Cope takes us through a review of our perspectives on every aspect of life, with provocative challenges to consider what the Bible says. It’s a whistle- stop tour, but well worth the trip.
