TFH Leaders Lunch with Gavin Calver

Gavin Calver spoke at our Leaders Lunch last week and inspired us to share our faith with fresh enthusiasm. He encouraged us to be influencers, not to be people who are influenced by society. He said that the church is dying of not liking change, but to remember that the style needs to keep changing but the substance remains the same. We are to hold our ground, to be salt and light while living in a difficult environment.

He said that so much of what the Church does doesn’t have Jesus ‘front and back’ and are distractions to sharing the gospel. He gave the statistic that nearly 90% of Parent and Toddler groups are run by Churches, and most children go to one, but there’s virtually no fruit as Jesus isn’t mentioned there. He said that the EA have spoken to some of these and found that Churches don’t want to put people off by talking about Jesus. He reminded us that it is not offensive to talk about Jesus in Church!

He also spent some time showing us the Great Commission website and encouraged everyone to go back to their churches and spend time looking at all the resources. There is something there for all ages and backgrounds. Some of the videos on the website have been watched over 70,000 times!

We featured the Great Commission Website in the latest issue of Harvest magazine on the back page. Let us know if you’ve used the website and what you think of it.

Nic Harding, TFH Director, also spoke to those present about identifying networks across the region, saying that TFH would love to make contact with them to talk about working together to reach the goal of telling everyone in our region the good news about Jesus.

If you know of or are part of a network that TFH hasn’t made contact with, please let us know by contacting the TFH office.
